Richard Griffiths 31 July 1947 - 28 March 2013 was an English actor of stage, film and television. He won the Laurence Oliver Award for Best Actor and a Tony Award for Best Performance by a leading actor for his role in the play 'The History Boys'. He is also known for his portrayal of Vernon Dursley in the Harry Porter franchise; Henry Crabbe in Pie in the Sky and King George II in Disney's 'The Pirates of the Caribbean'. He also appeared in the Oscar winning film Gandhi (1982). He attended Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama and started his career working for BBC radio. He quickly moved into the theatre and later film. His first film credit was for the role of Sam in 'It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet (1977). Subsequent roles in films such as Chariots of Fire, Gorkey Park, The Naked Gun and Hugo were to follow.
