Sir Alec Guiness born 2 April 1914 died 5 August 2000 was an English actor. After an early career on stage he featured in several Ealing Comedies including 'The Ladykillers' and Kind Hearts and Coronets'. He is known for six collaborations with David Lean including the classics Dr Zhivago, Bridge on the River Kwai, A Passage to India and Lawrence of Arabia. He also played the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas's origional Star Wars Trilogy. He has won a BAFTA, Golden Globe, Tony and was given in 1980 an Academy Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement
