ACTOR BIOGRAPHY
(Pamplona, Navarra, March 3, 1933 - Madrid, May 9, 2013) was a Spanish actor known for starring many of the works of the “landismo” Spanish films genre, a series of comedy and erotisc films of the 70s.
His first theatrical experience dates back to his time as a law student at the University of San Sebastian, playing numerous roles in Spanish University Theatre Foundation.
After moving to Madrid in 1958 he working in professional theater plays such as Los caciques (1962), by Carlos Arniches or El alma se serena (1968), by Juan José Alonso Millán.
Alternating theater and film roles, he began as a voice actor in cinema works. In 1962, he debuted in front of a camera with a small role in the film Atraco a las tres y media directed by Jose María Forqué. He also starred in El Verdugo (1963) by Luis Garcia Berlanga and La Verbena de la Paloma (1963), directed by José Luis Sáenz Heredia.
His starring roles came a year later in La niña de luto (1964), a film by Manuel Summers.
Of this same ages is his work in Ninette y un señor de Murcia (1965), by Fernando Ferran Gomez and La ciudad no es para mí, by Pedro Lazaga (1966), in which he shares the stage with Paco Martinez Soria.
In the 70s he played more than 30 roles in films of the genre dubbed "landismo" in honor of this actor, their scripts reflect the sexual liberation of the last years of the Franco dictatorship and the beginning of the Transition.
No desearás a la vecina del quinto (1970), by Ramon "Tito" Fernandez was one of many film who starred.
He had his artistic recognition in the 80s, collaborating with key Spanish directors. Some of the leading titles are Los Santos Inocentes (1984) by Mario Camnus - film with which won the award for Best Actor at Cannes Film Festival -, La Vaquilla (1985) by Luis García Berlanda o El Bosque Animado, directed by José Luis Cuerda, with which achieved his first Goya for best lead actor. Years later, he won another Goya for Marrana (1992).
In addition to film productions, he participated in successful Spaniard shows like Confidencias 1963-1965), Tristeza de amor (1986) or Lleno por favor (1993).
Alfredo Landa retired in 2007 and received the Goya of Honor for his career in 2008. In 2011 he received a star on the Walk of Fame Madrid.
